The Institute reimagines policymaking from the perspective of social movements, bringing those most impacted by crisis and conflict into the policy development process. The Institute serves as a hub for cross-sectoral, cross-movement, and transnational organizing, research, and scholarship. It works to advance the cutting edge of rights-based approaches to national and international law and policy, including peace and transitional justice processes, reconstruction, and human rights mechanisms. Leymah Gbowee, its Founding Executive Director, convene a public panel of global thought leaders to explore transformative peace and possibilities for transnational movement building and solidarity.

Workshop for Asian American Pacific Islander and Middle Eastern and North African Women in the Legal Academy

Dean Sudha Setty will make remarks at the annual OUTSummit, a convening CUNY Law has hosted frequently in the past, that brings together human rights activists, community leaders, government officials, funders and everyone else who believes in equality, justice and global solidarity come together for the LGBTQ+ community.

Looking Back, Moving Forward: Building a New Strategic Plan

CUNY Law is undertaking a strategic planning process—its first in almost a decade— to better understand how we can fulfill our institutional mission. This conversation with alumni will include curriculum, our co-curricular support and offerings, new and existing programs and initiatives, and ways to improve how we support the law school community.
From the world stage to the streets of Queens, CUNY Law is leading discourse, sharing resources, and building partnerships.
Exhibitions
This year, CUNY Law will debut its new Beacon Gallery. Created to explore issues of social justice, create dialogue, and activate change, the Beacon Gallery shares voices and perspectives that inspire change and decenter the power structures perpetuating injustice. Stay tuned for big announcements and more invitiations to join us.

W. Haywood Burns Chair Lecture Series: The Revolution Will Not Be Litigated Book Talk Panel

Vince Warren, the W. Haywood Burns Chair in Human and Civil Rights, leads a discussion with lawyers and activists from to the book, The Revolution Will Not Be Litigated, a collection of stories about the complex dance between legal reform and social change. 2024 Slatkin-Belsky Lecture

The Abraham and Rachel Slatkin-Belsky Distinguished Lecture Series, inaugurated in 2014, explores the intersection of law and social justice on issues that impact gender equality, with emphasis upon parity for women in the workplace. It has featured Ana L. Olivera, President & CEO, The New York Women’s Foundation; Fatou Bensouda, Chief Prosecutor, International Criminal Court; Myrna Cunningham, President, Center for Autonomy and Development of Indigenous Peoples; among others.

Pipeline to Justice Extravaganza
